For example: Binge eating, OCD, smoking, alcohol, gambling, shopping, chocolate, sugar, binge drinking, sex. Habits such as nail biting, skin/lip picking, bruxism (teeth grinding), knuckle cracking, nervous cough, trichotillomania (hair pulling).
Obsessions are recurrent and unwanted ideas or impulses, which are accompanied by an urge or compulsion to do something to relieve the discomfort and anxiety caused by the obsession. The compulsion could be doing things in a certain order and time, or maybe keeping things in order or neat and tidy. The majority (around 90 %) of people who have OCD have both obsessions and compulsions. The thoughts and behaviors a person with OCD has are repetitive, and often distressing and harmful.
Living with an obsession, compulsion, a habit or an addiction can be extremely limiting.
