Eating Dissorders

Weight Loss & Control

For example: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa.
Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge eating & Compulsive overeating are behavioral problems which have a destructive effect on the sufferer and those around them. Untreated they can result in weight gain or loss & ill health.
Causes of eating disorders:
The root causes of these disorders are usually complex, a combination of biological (nature) & external influence (nurture), which lead to often a severe lack of self-esteem as well as a distorted and/or negative body image.
Risk factors that can make someone more likely to have an eating disorder can include:

  • Having a family history of eating disorders or depression.
  • Difficult relationships with close family or friends ( causing a belief of low self-esteem, self-worth, self-love, self-value ).
  • Certain personality characteristics, for example, having an obsessive personality, an   anxiety disorder, low self-esteem or being a perfectionist.
  • Being overly concerned with being slim, particularly if combined with pressure to be slim from society or for a vocation.

Traditional medical treatment for eating disorders is typically aimed at changing the person’s unhealthy eating behavior with regards to food. My approach as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist for weight loss in Berkshire is different as I want to understand the reasons that are leading the person to do this behaviour.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is excellent for dealing with these issues as they work at a deeper level of consciousness, helping the individual to develop a greater understanding of their own mind and why their brain causes them to behave in this destructive way. Rather than attempting too quickly to change behaviour, which the individual believes are necessary. We enhance and grow feelings of self worth/value which enable the client to make changes to their patterns of eating and associated behaviour at a rate with which they feel comfortable with.

Q: So how many sessions will I need ?.

This will probably be not as many as you might think. Cognitive Hypnotherapy can often be very effective and make permanent changes, in a very short amount of time compared to other approaches. To successfully treat the underlying causes and the habit, it is my experience that this can be achieved on average in 3 to 4 sessions.
